When it comes to anime and video games, girls in glasses tend to fall into very similar tropes. There is the shy bookworm, the uptight student council president, or even the busty secretary. I wish there was more variety in glasses girls because glasses can look very good on characters at times, and it sucks that these characters often stick to very generic tropes. So I attempted to compile a top 50 list of glasses girls from anime and video games. It is hard to find unique glasses girls but I tried my best and these 50 are the closest I could find.

Before we get into this list, let me lay out some rules. I won’t count characters that wore glasses like once or twice such as Saber in the image above. I won’t count characters that wear contacts like 99% of the time. When it comes to transformations and alternate forms, if one of the forms tends to wear glasses, they count. Whether they even need to wear glasses is irrelevant as long as they wear them for a decent portion of the show or game. Also, sunglasses don’t count, so no Kamina from Gurren Lagann, no Shizuo from Durarara. Also, I’m not including Persona 4 characters as that would be cheating.

Disclaimer! This is my list, if you want, make your own. Note, I haven’t seen every anime ever, nor have I played every game ever. If a character isn’t on the list, it doesn’t mean I don’t like them, I might not even know who they are. I may make an updated list in the future after I watch more anime and play more games. Also, don’t take the exact spot of each character too seriously. I’m not too strict about the order until like the top 10.

Note, since this is a huge list, I won’t have very long descriptions for each character. If I did, this list would never get finished.

Minor spoiler warning! I will try to give barebones explanations of each character to not spoil people who haven’t watched the anime or played the game, but there might be minor spoilers as it is hard to describe a character without them.

With all that out of the way, let’s get onto the list.

50 Tsumugi Shirogane (Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony)

Tsumugi is a cosplayer who enjoys making clothes more than she does wearing them, but she ends up wearing them anyways. She can only cosplay fictional characters, not real people. She always considers herself to be a very normal person. She frequently makes references to various anime and video games.

49 Adele Balfetto (Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere)

Adele is a cheerful member of Musashi Ariadust Academy. She has very high mobility but her attacks can only go in one direction. She also has a highly defensive weapon which goes contrary to her natural speed.

48 Marin Temari (Revisions)

Marin is a sweet girl who is easy to become friends with, but she is indecisive and lacking in confidence. She is capable of piloting a mech but doesn’t like to do it.

47 Nodoka Manabe (K-On!)

Nodoka is a member of the student council and is a childhood friend of Yui. She is intelligent and responsible, and very mature for her age. She is always covering for the light music club and fixing their (Ritsu’s) mistakes.

46 Naoko Serizawa (Haruchika: Haruta and Chika)

Naoko is a clarinet player. She lost the ability to hear in her left ear and is partially deaf in her right.

45 Pandoria (Xenoblade Chronicles 2)

Pandoria is Zeke’s blade and has electrical powers. She has an energetic and quirky personality. She isn’t afraid to speak her mind, which includes teasing Zeke often, but she does show genuine care for her friends.

44 Kotoha Isone (Yozakura Quartet)

Kotoha is a half-youkai kotodama-user. Anything she says becomes reality. She has an outgoing personality. The glasses she wears are just for style, as she already wears contacts.

43 Ridget (Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet)

Ridget is the aid to the captain of the Gargantia. She is serious, calm and logical, and has a strong sense of responsibility.

42 Taeko Nomura (Coppelion)

Taeko has heightened senses like an anime. Her eyesight goes significantly farther than the average human, so she wears glasses that actually reduce her sight. She also has the ability to act as a nurse.

41 Ritsuko Akizuki (The iDOLM@STER)

Ritsuko works at 765 Production and is a very intelligent business woman. She can even act as a producer if needed. She is usually very serious and isn’t afraid to scold her idols.

40 Kaela Yoshinaga (B: The Beginning)

Kaela is an investigator for the Royal Investigative Service. She is an expert hacker, even using a foot pedal for hacking. She enjoys going out for drinks after work.

39 Charlotte Zoom (Heavy Object)

Charlotte is a member of the military of the Legitimacy Kingdom. She has a serious and strict personality. She isn’t afraid to put herself in danger for the mission.

38 Teru Hayama (Three Leaves, Three Colors)

Teru is the class representative. She gives off the impression of a kind and mature person but she can actually be cruel and mean to others who aren’t on her good side. She has a soft spot for cute animals.

37 Yanagin (Daily Lives of High School Boys)

Yanagin is a vile girl with a short temper. She used to do karate but quit. She is surprisingly smart for someone with her personality.

36 Riko Izumi (Hanebado!)

Riko is the vice captain of the badminton club. She is best friends with Nagisa. She has a motherly personality, always looking after the club.

35 Emily Thomas (Harukana Receive)

Emily is a beach volleyball player from America. She teams with her sister, Claire. She is more serious compared to her sister and frequently scolds her for her antics.

34 Youka Murase (Sagrada Reset)

Youka is an ability user with the power to erase anything. Her power can even erase things conceptually, giving her a wide range of capabilities. She is serious and to the point, and doesn’t let people get in her way.

33 Hyouka Kazakiri (A Certain Magical Index)

Hyouka becomes good friends with Index. She is very shy and gets embarrassed easily. She has trouble getting along with Touma at first but he ends up becoming one of her cherished friends along with Index. She has a secret about herself that she keeps from everyone else.

32 Sakie Satou (Interviews with Monster Girls)

Sakie is a teacher who is also a succubus. She wears non-revealing clothing to not distract her students, although male students still tend to find her attractive. She wants a partner who doesn’t just find her attractive because of her pheromones. She is shy and socially awkward but she really cares about her students.

31 Tsubasa Hanekawa (Monogatari)

Tsubasa is a smart student and a friend of Koyomi. She is considered a model student by everyone around her but she harbors a dark secret about her personal life.

30 MIX (Aquarion Evol)

MIX is a tsundere with a strong hatred of men. Her hatred comes from events that happened in her past, but over time she warms up to men. She has the ability to fill up holes. She is a very responsible student, always adhering to the rules.

29 Jill Ridoner (The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky)

Jill is a classmate of Kloe at Jenis Royal Academy. She is the student council president. Despite being the president, she is more laid-back and isn’t afraid to joke around or have fun, although she does take her duties seriously. She runs her mouth a lot, which sometimes leads to her unintentionally saying something offensive.

28 Touko Sumikaze (Occultic; Nine)

Touko is a writer for an occult magazine. She is generally cheerful and enthusiastic. She doesn’t easily get caught up in other’s banter and is pretty intelligent about her circumstances.

27 Hanako Hattori (Classroom Crisis)

Although her real name is Hanako Hattori, she prefers to be called Angelina. She manages the finances of A-TEC. She is quick to anger, but she does take her job seriously. She has a crush on Nagisa.

26 Midori Oono (After School Dice Club)

Midori is a huge fan of board games and works at a board game shop. She aims to one day be a game author. She becomes friends with Miki and Aya and teaches them about board games, but she usually beats them due to her experience.

25 Tamako Arai (Barakamon)

Tamako is Miwa’s best friend. They frequently bother Handa while he is working. She is a huge manga fan. She tries to deny that she is a fujoshi, but loses her cool whenever she perceives something as boys love.

24 Shuri Kurosaki (Asura Cryin’)

Shuri was involved in a plane crash in which she almost died. Her limbs were replaced with machinery, and she can store very weapons in them. She is very confident and acts as a senpai to the rest of the main cast.

23 Ursula Callistis (Little Witch Academia)

Ursula is a teacher at Luna Nova Magical Academy. While she can be somewhat awkward, she really cares for her students. Meeting Akko inspires her to be a good teacher, and she becomes a source of great wisdom.

22 Chiriko Tsurumi (Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day)

Chiriko is usually quiet and reserved. While sometimes the voice of reason, she can also be harsh and critical of others. She is often seen with Atsumu, and she has looked after him since the death of Menma.

21 Nozomi Takamagahara (Planet With)

Nozomi quickly becomes friends with Souya early in the series. She is kind and empathetic to his struggles, despite not knowing what he’s been through.

20 Kazuko Suema (Boogiepop and Others)

Kazuko is a friend of Nagi and Touka. She has an interest in criminal psychology after almost being killed in a serial killer incident. She is kind and helpful, and often gets involved in the supernatural incidents involving the Towa Organization.

19 Anri Sonohara (Durarara!!)

Anri is a high school student who becomes friends with Mikado and Masaomi. She is shy and lacking in confidence and gives off the impression of a normal person. But she holds a secret that makes her even more special than most in Ikebukuro.

18 Mari Illustrious Makinami (Evangelion Rebuilds)

Mari is an eva pilot. Unlike the other pilots, she enjoys piloting an eva. She has a very energetic and lively personality but can be quite aggressive and foul-mouthed when piloting.

17 Maya Yamato (BanG Dream!)

Maya is a studio musician proficient at drums. She ends up joining Pastel Palettes as an idol drummer. She is a huge fan of audio equipment. She can be socially awkward which sometimes gets her teased.

16 Peko Pekoyama (Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair)

Peko is the ultimate swordswoman. She always carries around a bamboo blade. She’s generally very serious and mature. She comes off as cold and emotionless, although she states that she doesn’t try to.

15 Rio Futaba (Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai)

Rio is friends with Sakuta and Yuuma and has a crush on the latter. She is very intelligent and knows a lot about science. She can be very stoic and blunt. She has a large bust, which causes her to feel self-conscious.

14 Kobayashi (Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid)

Kobayashi is a programmer who one day came across a dragon. She ends up forming a family with dragons. She is usually very blunt and serious, although the dragon’s antics can sometimes anger her. She is kind and has a soft spot for the dragons. She also has an obsession with maid outfits and likes to get drunk.

13 Mii Konori (A Certain Scientific Railgun)

Mii is the chief of the 177th branch of Judgement and looks after Kuroko and Kazari. As their superior, she looks out for them and has a motherly side to her. She frequently drinks Musashino milk and attributes it to why her breasts are so large.

12 Shiori Asagiri (Tamako Market)

Shiori is a shy girl with a serious and cool personality. She initially wants to be friends with Tamako and her friends but doesn’t know how to approach her. She is a part of the badminton club.

11 Chiaki Oogaki (Laid-back Camp)

Chiaki is a member of the Outdoor Activities club. She enjoys going camping with her friends. She has a very outgoing and energetic personality. She loves cracking jokes and is always coming up with ideas for things the club can do.

10 Kinoa Ougi (BBandUSuranki)

Kinoa is a bubuki user with a brazen and delinquent-like personality. Her bubuki takes the form of dual swords, which she is capable of using to fly, riding it like a surfboard.

9 Machiko Noma (High School Fleet)

Machiko is the lookout for the Harekaze. She actually has the ability to see very far, but wears glasses for farsightedness. She also has the ability to do great athletic feats and even fight. Girls tend to find her very cool, which makes her popular with them.

8 Kasane Kujiragi (Durarara!!)

Kasane is the secretary of Jinnai Yodojiri. She is cold and calculating and rarely shows emotion. Despite her stoic demeanor, she is interested in gothic lolita cosplay. She has a secret ability that is very powerful.

7 Miyu Shinohara (Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online)

Miyu is the best friend of Karen and is a huge gamer. She joins Karen in GGO for the second squad jam. She has a cute avatar like Karen but with blonde hair. Her weapon of choice is two grenade launchers. She has a lively and energetic personality. She can be quite a chatterbox and makes lots of jokes.

6 Phi (Zero Time Dilemma)

Phi didn’t wear glasses in Virtue’s Last Reward but does in Zero Time Dilemma. Phi is a very intelligent person, well-versed in many sciences. She has a very blunt personality, which gives the impression that she is rude and uncaring, but she softens up over time.

5 Nice Holystone (Baccano!)

Nice is a part of a gang with Jacuzzi Splot. She is a huge fan of explosives. She tends to have a calm and cool personality, which contrasts with Jacuzzi, who is kinda wimpy and a crybaby.

4 Touko Aozaki (The Garden of Sinners)

Touko is a very intelligent mage with mystic eyes. She runs a company that takes on jobs involving the supernatural. She has two personalities she switches between based on whether she is wearing her glasses or not. With her glasses, she seems nice and friendly. Without them, she can seem cruel and unapproachable.

3 Futaba Sakura (Persona 5)

Futaba is a shut-in who is amazing at programming and hacking. She shuts herself in her room because of her past but eventually joins the phantom thieves as a navigator. She has a bubbly personality and loves nerdy things, but she has trouble with crowds and with talking to strangers.

2 Asuka Tanaka (Sound! Euphonium)

Asuka is a euphonist and the vice-president of the concert band. She gives off the impression of being very friendly and approachable, but this is just an act, as she is actually cold and uncaring.

1 Shino Asada (Sword Art Online)

Shino is a Gun Gale Online player under the name Sinon and is one of the best snipers in the game. In real life, she has a fear of guns due to an incident in her past, which caused her to have major PTSD. In real life, she is shy and keeps to herself, as her reputation made it hard for her to make friends. In the game, she also keeps to herself but is more serious and confident. Her glasses don’t actually help her see but are bulletproof, as it helps her secure.

Conclusion

This was a pretty hard list to come up with considering how most glasses girls in anime and video games fall into very clear archetypes with nothing making them feel unique and likable, but somehow I was able to make a top 50.
