Fairy Tail Series 2 Episode 102

fairy tail series 2 episode 102

I’m feeling a whirlwind of emotions – sadness and happiness all at once. These conflicting feelings arise as we bid farewell to the Fairy Tail anime, at least temporarily. It’s both a good and bad thing.

On the bright side, Fairy Tail won’t fall into Filler Hell like certain other anime cough Naruto Shippuden cough. But on the downside, we won’t be able to enjoy any new Fairy Tail episodes for at least a year, except for the upcoming OVAs. We must respect the studio’s decision, understanding that flooding the series with fillers would ultimately harm its sales. Unless the filler episodes are truly exceptional, people won’t be willing to invest in them.

Now, let’s dive into the review.

Lucy’s New Job

The episode starts with Lucy getting ready for her new job as a reporter for Weekly Sorcerer. I must say, Lucy has only become more enchanting during the one-year timeskip.

Lucy finds herself in Crocus, reporting on the Grand Magic Games. However, this year’s participation lacks the excitement of previous years, as none of the top guilds, including Fairy Tail, are competing. We learn that many former Fairy Tail members have embarked on their own paths. Meanwhile, Lucy’s journey led her to become a model for Weekly Sorcerer before transitioning into a reporter. The anime extended this part, giving us some delightful fanservice. It’s easy to forget that Lucy is also a writer, so it’s refreshing to see her putting pen to paper again.

The Underdog Team

On the second day of the Grand Magic Games, Lucy notices a seemingly unremarkable team deliberately holding back to secure high odds in bets. Their strategy is clear: to win big by surprising everyone. However, everything changes when Natsu bursts onto the scene and shows everyone what he’s made of.

Nostalgic References

This episode is filled with nostalgic references to the early episodes of Fairy Tail: Natsu and Happy devouring Lucy’s food, the trio fleeing from the army, and their journey towards Fairy Tail. The series concludes with Natsu, Lucy, and Happy embarking on the quest to reunite the Fairy Tail guild.

My Thoughts on the Anime

As a devoted fan of the Fairy Tail manga, I loved the anime adaptation. However, I must admit that I preferred the first series due to its vibrant and lively color palette. The “wow” sound effect that accompanied fanservice moments never failed to bring a smile to my face.

In conclusion, I would give Fairy Tail Second Series an 8 out of 10. It faithfully captured the essence of the manga, but lacked the vibrant colors that initially made Fairy Tail so enjoyable.

With that, my Spring Season journey comes to an end. I will soon release my personal Spring Preview on my blog.

Until the next season, my friends.
